| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Charles Ray Sims, a retired fire chief of the Cedar |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Hill Fire Department, who has been named a 2017 Lifetime |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Achievement Honoree; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Sims joined the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Department in 1949, and he quickly gained the respect of his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | colleagues and the community; during his long career with the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | department, he served as the volunteer fire chief for 26 years; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In 1984, Chief Sims became the first paid fire |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | chief of the Cedar Hill Fire Department; as a leader, he was noted |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for his skill and courage and for promoting the highest ideals of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | civic service and public safety; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Chief Sims retired in February of 1995, after 46 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | years with the department; in 2000, he was recognized for his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | exemplary contributions to the community when the Cedar Hill Fire |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Department named the central fire station the Charles R. Sims |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Station in his honor; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A truly distinguished public servant, Chief Sims |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | established standards of excellence at the Cedar Hill Fire |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Department for his successors to follow, and his legacy at the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | department will not be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend former Cedar Hill Fire Department |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Fire Chief Charles Ray Sims for helping to shape the success of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the Cedar Hill Fire Department and congratulate him on being |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | named a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Honoree; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
