SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 468 WHEREAS, The State of Texas leads the nation in oil and natural gas production, pipeline miles, and refining capacity, all of which have led to an unprecedented level of American energy security; in 2016, America's net imports of crude oil hit a 20-year low; and WHEREAS, Proud energy supporters are celebrating the 1st Texas Energy Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 22, 2017; and WHEREAS, The oil and natural gas industry creates high-paying jobs and generates revenue, including $9.4 billion in taxes and royalties during fiscal year 2016 that directly funded our schools, roads, and emergency services; and WHEREAS, Many Texas oil and natural gas companies are leading the way to develop new technologies that are reducing water consumption, expanding water reuse, and increasing the use of naturally occurring saltwater, or brackish water, in their operations; and WHEREAS, Thanks to innovation and advances in technology, carbon dioxide emissions associated with energy production dropped 12 percent between 2005 and 2015, and today, natural gas production has the smallest carbon footprint compared to all other traditional fuel sources; and WHEREAS, Even as oil and natural gas production have skyrocketed, methane levels have remained flat as oil and natural gas companies continuously work to reduce emissions; and WHEREAS, Oil and natural gas are used to make 96 percent of products and materials that we use every day, including plastics, medicines, computers, life-saving devices, and more; and WHEREAS, Thanks to fracking, Texas is the nation's number one producer of oil and natural gas, and the United States is the world's leader in oil and natural gas production; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby recognize March 22, 2017, as Texas Energy Day at the Capitol and extend to all energy supporters best wishes for a memorable day.
