| 4 | 4 | | all of which have led to an unprecedented level of American |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | energy security; in 2016, America's net imports of crude oil hit |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a 20-year low; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Proud energy supporters are celebrating the 1st |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas Energy Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 22, 2017; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The oil and natural gas industry creates |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | high-paying jobs and generates revenue, including $9.4 billion |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in taxes and royalties during fiscal year 2016 that directly |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | funded our schools, roads, and emergency services; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Many Texas oil and natural gas companies are |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | leading the way to develop new technologies that are reducing |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | water consumption, expanding water reuse, and increasing the use |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of naturally occurring saltwater, or brackish water, in their |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | operations; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to innovation and advances in technology, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | carbon dioxide emissions associated with energy production |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | dropped 12 percent between 2005 and 2015, and today, natural gas |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | production has the smallest carbon footprint compared to all |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | other traditional fuel sources; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Even as oil and natural gas production have |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | skyrocketed, methane levels have remained flat as oil and natural |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | gas companies continuously work to reduce emissions; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Oil and natural gas are used to make 96 percent of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | products and materials that we use every day, including plastics, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | medicines, computers, life-saving devices, and more; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to fracking, Texas is the nation's number |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | one producer of oil and natural gas, and the United States is the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | world's leader in oil and natural gas production; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 22, 2017, as Texas Energy Day |
