1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 472
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	honor the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and its
4	4	dedicated volunteers for their exceptional efforts to reduce the
5	5	incidence of cancer in our state; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Recent data from the American Cancer Society
7	7	indicates that the cancer death rate in the United States has
8	8	dropped by 25 percent since its peak in 1991; increased
9	9	investment in cancer research has paid impressive dividends, and
10	10	the efforts of hardworking health care employees have saved the
11	11	lives of countless citizens across the nation; and
12	12	WHEREAS, The volunteers of the American Cancer Society
13	13	Cancer Action Network work diligently to reduce cancer rates by
14	14	funding grassroots, lobbying, and media campaigns and advocating
15	15	for the use of early detection programs; the Cancer Prevention
16	16	and Research Institute of Texas promotes this mission by
17	17	accelerating cancer research, prioritizing clinical trials for
18	18	promising new medications, and helping to inform Texans about
19	19	cancer prevention strategies and services; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Although great strides have been made in cancer
21	21	prevention and research, it is estimated that 1.6 million new
22	22	cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States in 2017; the
23	23	American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network volunteers engage
24	24	local communities and motivate leaders across the state to take
25	25	the proactive steps necessary in the very important battle
26	26	against cancer; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commend the volunteers of the American
29	29	Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and proclaim March 28, 2017,
30	30	American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Day at the State
31	31	Capitol; and, be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
33	33	organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
