| 3 | 3 | | recognize members of the Girls' School of Austin fourth-grade |

| 4 | 4 | | class, who are visiting the Capitol on March 27, 2017; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2002, the Girls' School of Austin |

| 6 | 6 | | provides an academically challenging education for girls in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | kindergarten through eighth grade; the school's mission is to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | help students become confident young women who lead fulfilling |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and intellectually vibrant lives; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Fourth graders at the Girls' School of Austin |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | learn about the mechanics of the different branches of Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | government with an emphasis on the legislature; students study |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the historical and contemporary role of women in state |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | government, and they write letters to legislators about issues |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | that most concern them; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Guided by their teacher, Rachel Lee, the members of |

| 17 | 17 | | the fourth-grade class are Adanna Amalaha, Ella Kate Brotman, Ivy |

| 18 | 18 | | Christie, Lila Cisneros-Wise, Willa Crocker, Elyse Daniels, |

| 19 | 19 | | Adriana Davies, Isabella DiCarlo, Harper Freach, Emery Ledoux, |

| 20 | 20 | | Mackenzie Lopez, Josie Mullan, Grace Philips, Sylvie Powell, Sonia |

| 21 | 21 | | Randle, Brooklyn Rice, Ainsley Rudd, and Grace Schlegel; and |

| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Citizen participation is vital to a robust and |

| 23 | 23 | | flourishing democracy, and through the study of engaged state |

| 24 | 24 | | leaders and the governmental process, these outstanding young |

| 25 | 25 | | women are learning how to make positive contributions to their |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | communities; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby welcome the fourth-grade class of the Girls' |

| 29 | 29 | | School of Austin and extend to them best wishes for an enjoyable |

| 30 | 30 | | and informative visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further |
