| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Keri Powell, who has been selected as the 2016 Texas |

| 4 | 4 | | Big Sister of the Year; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationwide |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | organization with a mission of helping children meet their full |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | potential in school and in life through strong and caring |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | mentorship; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Keri Powell volunteers as a Big Sister for Big |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock, and she has been a mentor to her |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Little Sister, Kiana Gaines, for 11 years; in their years |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | together, they have shared a wide range of experiences, and Keri |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | has shown Kiana the importance of a strong education; as a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | result, Kiana has found academic success while pursuing a number |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of extracurricular activities; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Keri and Kiana enjoy serving their community |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | through an array of local organizations, and their time |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | volunteering with the South Plains Food Bank led to a summer job |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for Kiana; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a mentor, Keri Powell |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | assists Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock with local |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recruitment endeavors, event planning, and fund-raising; she is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | an outstanding citizen, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Keri Powell for her many contributions |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to the Lubbock community and congratulate her on being named the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 2016 Texas Big Sister of the Year; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
