2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Joe Henry Morin, who recently retired from the Economic |
---|
4 | 4 | | Development and Tourism division of the Office of the Governor |
---|
5 | 5 | | after an exemplary career of public service; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Joe Morin began his professional career working |
---|
7 | 7 | | with SER-Jobs for Progress, a nationwide nonprofit organization |
---|
8 | 8 | | that helps members of the Hispanic community achieve their dreams |
---|
9 | 9 | | through education, employment, and empowerment; he later became |
---|
10 | 10 | | vice president of Harvard Technologies, where he helped drive |
---|
11 | 11 | | business growth while fostering a company culture of community |
---|
12 | 12 | | involvement; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, From 1984 until 1999, Mr. Morin served as |
---|
14 | 14 | | president of the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers |
---|
15 | 15 | | of Commerce; during his tenure, he developed strategic |
---|
16 | 16 | | partnerships with over 50 Fortune 500 companies and key alliances |
---|
17 | 17 | | with The University of Texas, Texas A&M University, and the |
---|
18 | 18 | | United States Small Business Administration, and he helped to |
---|
19 | 19 | | develop new chamber organizations in more than 30 cities; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Morin helped lead economic development |
---|
21 | 21 | | efforts at the state level for 15 years; he was instrumental in |
---|
22 | 22 | | bringing a Toyota manufacturing facility to Texas, and he led the |
---|
23 | 23 | | effort to create the first statewide online "one-stop shop" |
---|
24 | 24 | | business portal during his tenure as small business advocate in |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Office of the Governor; he went on to manage finance and tax |
---|
26 | 26 | | incentive programs in the Economic Development and Tourism |
---|
27 | 27 | | division of the governor's office, and he retired from state |
---|
28 | 28 | | service in January of 2017; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A truly distinguished Texan, Joe Morin has served |
---|
30 | 30 | | in leadership roles for numerous professional associations and |
---|
31 | 31 | | has helped to develop a broad range of economic opportunities for |
---|
32 | 32 | | citizens across the state; his presence in the Office of the |
---|
33 | 33 | | Governor will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend Joe Henry Morin on his exceptional |
---|
36 | 36 | | career and his many contributions to the state and extend to him |
---|
37 | 37 | | best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; |
---|

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
