55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of James Michael Walker, who died March 6,
77 2017, at the age of 79; and
88 WHEREAS, Jim Walker was born on May 28, 1937, in Temple, to
99 James and Gertrude Walker; except for a brief time in Houston, he
1010 was a longtime resident of Temple; and
1111 WHEREAS, Over the course of his professional career, he
1212 worked with Farmers Insurance and the New York Life Insurance
1313 Company; he also served the country as a special agent with the
1414 United States Department of the Treasury; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Walker strongly believed in the importance of
1616 education and served as a teacher for the Ralph Wilson Youth
1717 Clubs of Temple and as a substitute teacher for the Temple and
1818 Killeen school districts; he shared his love of science with
1919 young people by making scientific devices and showing them at
2020 area science fairs and museums; and
2121 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
2222 daily life, he was a longtime member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and
2323 he served as an elder in his local congregation; and
2424 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Dortha Lee Taylor Walker,
2525 enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, and his three children
2626 were a source of much pride and joy; and
2727 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2828 gavegenerouslytoothers,andhiswisdom,warmth,andvalued
2929 counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
3030 share in his life; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
3232 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
3333 many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of James Michael Walker; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Jim Walker.
