4	4	James Michael Walker
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of James Michael Walker, who died March 6,
7	7	2017, at the age of 79; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Jim Walker was born on May 28, 1937, in Temple, to
9	9	James and Gertrude Walker; except for a brief time in Houston, he
10	10	was a longtime resident of Temple; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Over the course of his professional career, he
12	12	worked with Farmers Insurance and the New York Life Insurance
13	13	Company; he also served the country as a special agent with the
14	14	United States Department of the Treasury; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Walker strongly believed in the importance of
16	16	education and served as a teacher for the Ralph Wilson Youth
17	17	Clubs of Temple and as a substitute teacher for the Temple and
18	18	Killeen school districts; he shared his love of science with
19	19	young people by making scientific devices and showing them at
20	20	area science fairs and museums; and
21	21	WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
22	22	daily life, he was a longtime member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and
23	23	he served as an elder in his local congregation; and
24	24	WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Dortha Lee Taylor Walker,
25	25	enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, and his three children
26	26	were a source of much pride and joy; and
27	27	WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
28	28	gavegenerouslytoothers,andhiswisdom,warmth,andvalued
29	29	counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
30	30	share in his life; and
31	31	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
32	32	behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
33	33	many friends; now, therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
35	35	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
36	36	family of James Michael Walker; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
39	39	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
40	40	memory of Jim Walker.
