| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Ruby Jewel Bennett, who is being honored with a |

| 4 | 4 | | Community Award from Acres Home Chamber for Business and Economic |

| 5 | 5 | | Development, Incorporated, at its 28th annual Awards Banquet on |

| 6 | 6 | | March 31, 2017; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The Acres Home Chamber for Business and Economic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Development was founded in 1994 to promote the economic vitality |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of the Acres Homes community; the nonprofit organization |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | provides a variety of programs, seminars, workshops, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | professional development opportunities to the community with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | goal of helping individuals, small businesses, and entrepreneurs |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | continue on paths to success; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the organization hosts an awards |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | banquet to honor area citizens who deserve recognition for their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | exceptional work on behalf of the Acres Homes community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ruby Bennett was raised in Acres Homes, and she |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | has worked tirelessly to make sure her community remains a clean, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | safe, and desirable place in which to live and raise a family; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | known as "The Tire Lady," she collaborated with the City of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Houston Solid Waste Department to begin an abandoned tire pick-up |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | service in Acres Homes; her program was so successful, it was |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | adopted in communities throughout Houston; a licensed attorney, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | she has actively worked to help those in need through her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | profession and through her civic contributions and her work with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A truly exemplary citizen, Ruby Bennett |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | represents the highest ideals of civic engagement, and she can |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | indeed take pride in her outstanding community leadership; now, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend Ruby Jewel Bennett for helping to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | make the Acres Homes community an inviting place in which to live |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and work and congratulate her on receiving a Community Award from |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the Acres Home Chamber for Business and Economic Development; |
