| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Bennett Tubbs for his pioneering work in bus transportation |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | services; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Tubbs is the president and owner of BET |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Services, Incorporated, an umbrella corporation serving as an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | independent agent for Greyhound bus transportation services; he |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | was the first African American to own an independent Trailways |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | agency in Texas; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Tubbs began his professional career while in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | high school by serving as a part-time porter for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Greyhound-Trailways in Forrest City, Arkansas; during his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | studies at Philander Smith College, he continued to work |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | part-time for the company, and in 1971, he was promoted to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | night ticket agent and accounting clerk, making him the first |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | African American to sell bus tickets in Arkansas; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After his college graduation, he moved to Dallas, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | where he was hired as an internal auditor for the Trailways |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | corporate office and became only the second African American in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the country to hold that position in the company; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, he became the owner of BET Services, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Incorporated, an independent Trailways agency which became a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | part of Greyhound in 1985; in the years since he acquired the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | agency, its revenues have increased more than tenfold, and he has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | instituted such initiatives as offering charge accounts to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | trucking companies; it is truly fitting that he receive special |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | recognition for his many accomplishments in the transportation |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | industry; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Bennett Tubbs on his exceptional |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | achievements and extend to him best wishes for continued success |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
