| 4 | 4 | | Association and the association's president, Eddie Villarreal, |

| 5 | 5 | | on their successful annual planning of the celebration of |

| 6 | 6 | | Washington's Birthday in Laredo; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Every year, the citizens of Laredo celebrate the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | birthday of the Father of Our Country; the Washington's Birthday |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Celebration Association sponsors the celebration to pay tribute |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to the memory of George Washington and to his virtues and his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | patriotism; the 120th celebration will take place from January 19 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | through February 20, 2017; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Since its beginning as a two-day event in 1898, |

| 14 | 14 | | the Washington's Birthday Celebration gradually has evolved into |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | a grand celebration entailing numerous events in the United |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | States and in Mexico; spectators and participants enjoy marching |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | bands and floats, spectacular fireworks displays, food, games, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and entertainers from both sides of the border; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The yearly celebrations exemplify the spirit and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | enthusiasm of Laredoans and the pride they take in their city and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | country; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Washington's |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Birthday Celebration Association on their patriotism and their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | dedication and extend best wishes to them for a joyous 120th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | birthday celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
