| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Terry Mills, who has been named the recipient of the |

| 4 | 4 | | 2016 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award by the Houston |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious honor was established in 1990 as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in the United |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | States; every year, Federal Bureau of Investigation field |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | offices throughout the country select a community partner to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | receive the award; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Terry Mills is president of the Corpus Christi |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Colored People; since assuming the post in 2009, he has been at |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the forefront of endeavors to promote the region's civil rights |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | efforts, education initiatives, and youth outreach programs; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2016, he brought together law enforcement |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | agencies, community organizations, local businesses, and schools |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for a youth summit; the conference attracted more than 4,000 high |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | school students, and representatives from participating agencies |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | discussed such topics as domestic violence, self-esteem issues, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | religious and cultural differences, the importance of making |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | good life decisions, and how to have positive interactions with |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | law enforcement; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Terry Mills has had a profound impact on the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Corpus Christi community through his advocacy for justice and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | equality, and it is truly fitting that he receive special |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Terry Mills on his many achievements |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and extend congratulations to him on receiving the 2016 FBI |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Director's Community Leadership Award; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
