1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 554
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation on the
4	4	occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
5	5	WHEREAS, This milestone anniversary provides a fitting
6	6	opportunity to recognize the important role the North Alamo Water
7	7	Supply Corporation plays in providing clean water to the people
8	8	of the Rio Grande Valley; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Recognizing an urgent need for potable water, a
10	10	group of farmers and homeowners joined together in 1966 to form a
11	11	water utility; the following year, the North Alamo Water Supply
12	12	Corporation began providing households with clean drinking water
13	13	and farmers with a reliable source of water for agricultural use;
14	14	initially established in Hidalgo County, the project eventually
15	15	expanded to include portions of Willacy and Cameron Counties; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Today, the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation
17	17	is the largest rural water utility in Texas and the third-largest
18	18	water utility in the Rio Grande Valley; encompassing 1,000 square
19	19	miles and 17 cities or communities, it provides water to nearly
20	20	180,000 people, 24 schools, and 6 other public water systems; and
21	21	WHEREAS, A pioneer in the desalination of brackish
22	22	groundwater, the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation maintains
23	23	six surface water treatment plants and five reverse osmosis
24	24	treatment plants; together these facilities process more than 34
25	25	million gallons a day, which is delivered via 3,500 miles of
26	26	pipeline, 9 booster stations, and 8 elevated storage towers; four
27	27	wastewater treatment facilities serve more than 3,260
28	28	connections in four communities, and the corporation is
29	29	completing a new $11 million regional treatment and wastewater
30	30	collection system; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Serving a growing population while making the
32	32	most of limited freshwater resources, the North Alamo Water
33	33	Supply Corporation provides clean, safe water to hundreds of
34	34	thousands of Texans and continues to be a leader in the water and
35	35	wastewater utility industry in the Lone Star State; now,
36	36	therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
38	38	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the
39	39	North Alamo Water Supply Corporation and extend to its management
40	40	and staff sincere best wishes for continued success with their
41	41	important work; and, be it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
43	43	the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation as an expression of
44	44	esteem from the Texas Senate.
