SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the American Heart Association and to proclaim February 3, 2017, National Wear Red Day in Texas; and WHEREAS, Nearly 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases are preventable, yet an estimated 44 million women in the United States are affected by cardiovascular disease, and one in three women will die from the condition; and WHEREAS, Although 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease, only a limited number of women recognize cardiovascular disease as a potential threat to their well-being; and WHEREAS, Thousands of lives can be saved each year by increasing the public's awareness of heart disease and stroke and by empowering women to find ways to reduce their risk of both; and WHEREAS, The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign motivates women to learn about their family health histories and to work with a health care provider to determine their personal risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and strokes; National Wear Red Day in Texas is an opportunity for citizens across the state to display their support for women and for the ongoing fight against heart disease; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby urge all Texans to show their support for women by observing National Wear Red Day in Texas and commend all associated with the American Heart Association for their work promoting the health of women; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a memento of this important day.
