| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the American Heart Association and to proclaim |

| 4 | 4 | | February 3, 2017, National Wear Red Day in Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Nearly 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases are |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | preventable, yet an estimated 44 million women in the United |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | States are affected by cardiovascular disease, and one in three |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | women will die from the condition; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Although 90 percent of women have one or more risk |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | factors for developing heart disease, only a limited number of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | women recognize cardiovascular disease as a potential threat to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | their well-being; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Thousands of lives can be saved each year by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | increasing the public's awareness of heart disease and stroke and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | by empowering women to find ways to reduce their risk of both; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | campaign motivates women to learn about their family health |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | histories and to work with a health care provider to determine |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | their personal risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | strokes; National Wear Red Day in Texas is an opportunity for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | citizens across the state to display their support for women and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | for the ongoing fight against heart disease; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby urge all Texans to show their support for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | women by observing National Wear Red Day in Texas and commend all |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | associated with the American Heart Association for their work |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | promoting the health of women; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | memento of this important day. |
