| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor |

| 3 | 3 | | Chuck Norris for his many contributions to our state and nation; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Norris is one of the most recognized men in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | the nation because of the long and illustrious career he has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | built in the fields of martial arts, film and television, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | philanthropy; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, His interest in the martial arts began while he |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was serving in Korea with the United States Air Force; after his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | military service, he opened a chain of karate studios and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | competed in numerous martial arts tournaments; he won the first |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of multiple world middleweight karate championships in 1968 and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | successfully defended his title another five times; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, He was encouraged by one of his celebrity karate |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | students, Steve McQueen, to enter acting, and he brought his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | martial arts skills to the big screen to great acclaim; his |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | iconic fight scene with Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon launched |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | his career as one of the world's leading action film stars; he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | went on to appear in such hit films as Breaker! Breaker!, Missing |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in Action, and Code of Silence before beginning work on the hit |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | television series, Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran for eight |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | seasons; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Norris has throughout his career been |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | involved in numerous philanthropic efforts, including the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Make-A-Wish Foundation and the United Way; in 1992, he founded |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Kickstart Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | children character through karate training in public schools; he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | is also a committed entrepreneur who has established a bottled |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | water company, CForce, at an artesian aquifer source on his Lone |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Wolf Ranch in Grimes County; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend Chuck Norris on his many |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | achievements and extend to him best wishes for continued success |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
