| 3 | 3 | | recognize the physicians, residents, medical students, and |

| 4 | 4 | | advocate members of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association |

| 5 | 5 | | who are visiting the State Capitol on April 20, 2017, to |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrate Doctors of Osteopathic Medical Excellence Day, known |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | as D.O.M.E. Day, which takes place during National Osteopathic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Medicine Week; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | founded in 1900 by a group of five physicians with a mission to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | promote health care excellence for the people of Texas, advance |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the distinct philosophy and principles of osteopathic medicine, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and embrace the family of the osteopathic profession and serve |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | their unique needs; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, As primary care doctors or specialists, physician |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | members of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association help their |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | patients to develop attitudes and lifestyles that both fight |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | illness and prevent it; they give special attention to how the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | body's nerves, muscles, bones, and organs work together to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | influence health, and through osteopathic manipulative treatment, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | they can use their hands to diagnose injury and illness and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | encourage the body's natural ability to heal itself; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, All members of the Texas Osteopathic Medical |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Association play an essential role in the health care of countless |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texans, and their contributions to the welfare and prosperity of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the state are truly deserving of special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Texas Osteopathic |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Medical Association for their outstanding work on behalf of the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | people of Texas and recognize April 20 as D.O.M.E. Day and April |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 16 through 22, 2017, as Texas Osteopathic Medicine Week; and, be |
