1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 631
2	2	WHEREAS, Members of the Texas chapters of 100 Black Men of
3	3	America are gathering at the State Capitol in Austin on April 19,
4	4	2017, and their visit offers a fitting opportunity to celebrate
5	5	the work being done by this outstanding organization; and
6	6	WHEREAS, 100 Black Men of America was founded in New York
7	7	City in 1963, when a group of visionary leaders in business,
8	8	politics, and other fields came together to explore ways of
9	9	improving the quality of life in the African American community;
10	10	today, the organization numbers more than 90 chapters and over
11	11	10,000 members nationwide; guided by the motto "What They See Is
12	12	What They'll Be," these accomplished individuals are presently
13	13	enhancing the educational and economic opportunities available
14	14	to over 125,000 minority youth; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Based upon the four pillars of mentoring,
16	16	education, health and wellness, and economic development, the
17	17	organization's programs seek to address the emotional and
18	18	cultural needs of African American children, provide volunteer
19	19	support to schools and educators, advocate on behalf of equal
20	20	access to education, promote physical fitness and healthy eating
21	21	habits, and empower African American individuals and enterprises
22	22	through training in financial literacy and networking; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Contributing to the advancement of this vital
24	24	mission are the members of 100 Black Men of America who are active
25	25	in the organization's Texas chapters, which represent Austin,
26	26	Greater Beaumont, Greater Dallas, Greater Houston, San Antonio,
27	27	and West Texas; and
28	28	WHEREAS, For more than half a century, the members of 100
29	29	Black Men of America have helped to set countless young people on
30	30	the path to a brighter future, and they are indeed deserving of
31	31	commendation for their myriad good works; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
33	33	Legislature, hereby honor 100 Black Men of America for its long
34	34	history of service to African American youth and extend to the
35	35	visiting Texas members sincere best wishes for a meaningful and
36	36	memorable stay in Austin; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	the Texas chapters as an expression of high regard from the
39	39	Texas Senate.
