SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 633 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Michael Salgado for his outstanding success as a musician and his many contributions to the music industry; and WHEREAS, Known for his remarkable ability to play the accordion both left and right handed, Michael "El Zurdo De Oro" Salgado is a beloved entertainer who has won the hearts of the public with his unique talent and his spirited performances; and WHEREAS, Mr. Salgado released his first album in 1989, and he rose to prominence in 1995 with the release of "Cruz De Madera," which won best song of the year; he went on to release a string of hits and to earn numerous accolades including multiple Tejano Music Awards, a Billboard Latin Music Award, and a Grammy nomination; and WHEREAS, In recent years, Michael has ventured into the country music genre and created his own independent record label, releasing several albums to critical acclaim; he shared his journey of pursuing a new music genre in the film This is My Country, Twin Fiddles and Accordion, and he performed "Honky Tonks and Cantinas" at the film's world premiere in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Michael Salgado celebrated 20 years in the industry with the 2015 release of 20 Aniversario, and he will soon release Otras Historias, a compilation of different sounds that will also incorporate mariachi, a time-honored favorite; he is a celebrated performer whose extraordinary talent delights fans of all ages, and he is indeed deserving of recognition for his many career accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Michael Salgado for his outstanding success as a musician and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
