11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 642
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join the Texas Lyme Disease Association and Texans across the
44 state in observing May of 2017 as Lyme Disease Awareness Month in
55 Texas; and
66 WHEREAS, Lyme Disease infects more than 300,000 people in
77 the United States each year; it is transmitted by the common
88 black-legged tick, which is found in nearly half of all counties
99 in the United States; and
1010 WHEREAS, Lyme Disease is a complex multisystem illness that,
1111 if left untreated, can invade the nervous system, the heart, and
1212 other organs and can cause years of pain and suffering, disability,
1313 and even death; its symptoms can manifest as a wide range of other
1414 illnesses, including arthritis, migraine headaches, multiple
1515 sclerosis, and various neurological disorders; and
1616 WHEREAS, It is important to educate the public about the
1717 signs, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of this disease, and
1818 Lyme Disease Awareness Month presents a fitting opportunity to
1919 raise awareness about the dangers of this potentially deadly
2020 disease; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2222 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Lyme Disease Association
2323 for its advocacy efforts and proclaim the month of May 2017 as
2424 Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Texas; and, be it further
2525 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2626 the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
