11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 658
22 WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Student Financial Aid
33 Administrators is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017; and
44 WHEREAS, The association was founded in 1967 to advance a
55 profession dedicated to providing students with the resources
66 and information necessary to access higher education
77 opportunities; membership has grown to more than 2,000 Texans and
88 also includes individuals in several other states; and
99 WHEREAS, Among the initiatives the association has created
1010 to increase awareness of student financial aid options and
1111 financing programs are Financial Aid Awareness Week, the Middle
1212 School Project, and high school counselor training activities;
1313 in addition, the association assists in completing the Free
1414 Application for Federal Student Aid; and
1515 WHEREAS, Over the years, this organization has also
1616 coordinated with other entities committed to helping students
1717 pursue their dreams; in the late 1990s, it worked with
1818 Representative Henry Cuellar and with other groups to establish
1919 the Toward Excellence, Access, and Success Grant program, or
2020 TEXAS Grant, the first statewide, need-based grant program for
2121 students attending Texas public postsecondary institutions; and
2222 WHEREAS, The organization engages in advocacy at the state
2323 and federal levels, proposing refinements to current aid
2424 programs and suggesting other measures to improve the
2525 affordability of postsecondary education; moreover, it promotes
2626 administrative efficiency, program integrity and quality, and
2727 the simplification of applications, disbursements, and
2828 collections; and
2929 WHEREAS, Through its efforts to make postsecondary
3030 education more accessible and affordable, the Texas Association
3131 of Student Financial Aid Administrators is making a positive
3232 difference in the lives of countless Texans and strengthening the
3333 workforce that is key to the prosperity of the Lone Star State;
3434 now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3636 Legislature, hereby congratulate the Texas Association of
3737 Student Financial Aid Administrators on its 50th anniversary and
3838 extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success
3939 in their vital endeavors; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 the organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas
4242 Senate.
