| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Student Financial Aid |

| 3 | 3 | | Administrators is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, The association was founded in 1967 to advance a |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | profession dedicated to providing students with the resources |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and information necessary to access higher education |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | opportunities; membership has grown to more than 2,000 Texans and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | also includes individuals in several other states; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Among the initiatives the association has created |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to increase awareness of student financial aid options and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | financing programs are Financial Aid Awareness Week, the Middle |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | School Project, and high school counselor training activities; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in addition, the association assists in completing the Free |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Application for Federal Student Aid; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, this organization has also |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | coordinated with other entities committed to helping students |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | pursue their dreams; in the late 1990s, it worked with |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Representative Henry Cuellar and with other groups to establish |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the Toward Excellence, Access, and Success Grant program, or |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | TEXAS Grant, the first statewide, need-based grant program for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | students attending Texas public postsecondary institutions; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The organization engages in advocacy at the state |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and federal levels, proposing refinements to current aid |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | programs and suggesting other measures to improve the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | affordability of postsecondary education; moreover, it promotes |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | administrative efficiency, program integrity and quality, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the simplification of applications, disbursements, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | collections; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through its efforts to make postsecondary |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | education more accessible and affordable, the Texas Association |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | of Student Financial Aid Administrators is making a positive |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | difference in the lives of countless Texans and strengthening the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | workforce that is key to the prosperity of the Lone Star State; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Texas Association of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Student Financial Aid Administrators on its 50th anniversary and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | in their vital endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 41 | 41 | | the organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas |
