| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Eddie Cavazos, who is retiring after a long and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | productive career as a businessman, public servant, and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | lobbyist; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Cavazos is a veteran of the United States |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Army and a graduate of Texas A&M University--Kingsville; he began |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | his professional career with the Reynolds Metal Company before |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | starting businesses in casualty insurance and real estate |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | brokerage; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He served for 10 years as a member of the Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | House of Representatives speaking for the people of Corpus |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Christi and of Nueces County; he served in numerous important |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | posts, including as chair of the Insurance Committee and as chair |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of the Mexican-American Legislative Caucus; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1993, he was appointed by Governor Ann Richards |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to serve as chair of the Texas Workforce Commission; under his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | leadership, the agency underwent a complete restructuring that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | improved productivity among its employees throughout the state, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and he led the implementation of mobile technology that allowed |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the public access to the statewide job market; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 22 years, he has been an advocate at |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Texas Legislature for a wide range of issues including |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | energy, communications, windstorm insurance, health care, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | education, and business development; he is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | special recognition for his many achievements; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Eddie Cavazos on his many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions to the people of our state and extend to him best |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
