5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Raymondville in mourning the loss of Orlando A. |
---|
7 | 7 | | "Lonnie" Correa, who died on April 16, 2017, at the age of 54; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Raymondville, Lonnie Correa was born |
---|
9 | 9 | | on May 22, 1962; he was beloved by many, and he touched the lives |
---|
10 | 10 | | of others through his wisdom, his compassion, and his unfailing |
---|
11 | 11 | | commitment to serving his community; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Lonnie graduated from Raymondville High School in |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1980, and he continued his education at Texas A&M |
---|
14 | 14 | | University--Kingsville, where he earned master's degrees in |
---|
15 | 15 | | counseling and in administration; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He had a rewarding career in education, and over |
---|
17 | 17 | | the course of 24 years, he worked as a teacher, counselor, |
---|
18 | 18 | | principal, and superintendent; in May of 1999, he began serving |
---|
19 | 19 | | as the Raymondville city commissioner, and he was elected mayor |
---|
20 | 20 | | of the city in January of 2006; as mayor, he supported numerous |
---|
21 | 21 | | initiatives relating to municipal infrastructure and disaster |
---|
22 | 22 | | recovery, and he supported the work of the Raymondville Police |
---|
23 | 23 | | and Fire Departments; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Correa was a highly respected public servant |
---|
25 | 25 | | who contributed his time to numerous civic organizations; he was |
---|
26 | 26 | | a longtime member of the Raymondville Fire Department and the |
---|
27 | 27 | | Lions Club, and he was a lifelong congregant of Our Lady of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Guadalupe Catholic Church; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Lonnie Correa was a loving husband and a revered |
---|
30 | 30 | | resident of his community; he had a fulfilling life of service to |
---|
31 | 31 | | others, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished |
---|
32 | 32 | | by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, |
---|
33 | 33 | | be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Orlando A. "Lonnie" Correa; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
40 | 40 | | memory of Orlando Correa. |
