55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Raymondville in mourning the loss of Orlando A.
77 "Lonnie" Correa, who died on April 16, 2017, at the age of 54; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Raymondville, Lonnie Correa was born
99 on May 22, 1962; he was beloved by many, and he touched the lives
1010 of others through his wisdom, his compassion, and his unfailing
1111 commitment to serving his community; and
1212 WHEREAS, Lonnie graduated from Raymondville High School in
1313 1980, and he continued his education at Texas A&M
1414 University--Kingsville, where he earned master's degrees in
1515 counseling and in administration; and
1616 WHEREAS, He had a rewarding career in education, and over
1717 the course of 24 years, he worked as a teacher, counselor,
1818 principal, and superintendent; in May of 1999, he began serving
1919 as the Raymondville city commissioner, and he was elected mayor
2020 of the city in January of 2006; as mayor, he supported numerous
2121 initiatives relating to municipal infrastructure and disaster
2222 recovery, and he supported the work of the Raymondville Police
2323 and Fire Departments; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mr. Correa was a highly respected public servant
2525 who contributed his time to numerous civic organizations; he was
2626 a longtime member of the Raymondville Fire Department and the
2727 Lions Club, and he was a lifelong congregant of Our Lady of
2828 Guadalupe Catholic Church; and
2929 WHEREAS, Lonnie Correa was a loving husband and a revered
3030 resident of his community; he had a fulfilling life of service to
3131 others, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished
3232 by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore,
3333 be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Orlando A. "Lonnie" Correa; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Orlando Correa.
