SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 668 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2017; and WHEREAS, Established in 1941, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has built a reputation for excellence through the exhaustive research and innovative development of more than 10,000 high-performance military aircraft, many of which have played an important role in the defense of our nation; and WHEREAS, The newest of the company's fifth-generation fighters, the F-35 Lightning II, is a single-engine supersonic multi-role stealth fighter designed to meet the combat requirements of the United States Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy; the F-35 Lightning II program will perform key national security functions, and the new aircraft will replace a wide array of aging fighter jets; and WHEREAS, The Lockheed Martin Corporation provides jobs to more than 17,000 Texans at 50 facilities throughout the state, and more than 9,000 Texans are employed in the aeronautics division's F-35 program; the parent company helps generate approximately $2.4 billion in revenue for nearly 1,300 suppliers in Texas and creates more than 52,000 indirect jobs; and WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is an exemplary corporate citizen that makes vital contributions to the economic well-being of the Lone Star State and to the prosperity of all Texas citizens, and the F-35 Lightning II program continues the company's proud history of military aviation innovation in Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on its 75th anniversary and the success of the F-35 Lightning II program and extend to all associated with the company best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the company as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
