| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize members of Conjunto Halcón, a talented musical |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | ensemble from Los Fresnos High School that is performing in the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | rotunda at the State Capitol on May 8, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Conjunto is a unique musical style that has roots |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in South Texas and is heavily influenced by Latin American |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | performance traditions; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón was formed at Los Fresnos High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School in 2012 under the guidance of musician and educator Juan |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Longoria Jr.; the ensemble represents one of a select few public |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | school conjunto programs in the state, and it has grown to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | include more than 35 student musicians; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón helps keep the conjunto tradition |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | alive by performing at schools and community events around the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | state; this year, the group will showcase their skills at the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival in Austin and the Tejano Conjunto |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Festival in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The talented members of Conjunto Halcón have |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | developed excellent teamwork and discipline, and they are a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | source of great pride for Los Fresnos High School and the Los |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Fresnos community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of Conjunto Halcón of Los |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Fresnos High School for their success in performing and in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | preserving a proud South Texas music tradition and extend to them |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for a memorable performance at the State Capitol; |
|---|

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
