                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 676
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the citizens of Hutto and Texans across the state in
 celebrating May 9, 2017, as Hutto Day at the Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Hutto is located in the rich blacklands of
 southeastern Williamson County; situated near Austin, Georgetown,
 and Round Rock, and close to several major highways, it is one of
 the fastest-growing cities in the state; and
 WHEREAS, One of the earliest communities in what is now
 Williamson County, Hutto was originally settled in 1855 by J. E.
 Hutto, a native of Sweden, and Adam Orgain, a freed slave; the
 railroad's arrival in 1876 provided a major catalyst for growth,
 and the town was incorporated in 1911; and
 WHEREAS, Hutto is blessed with a small-town charm, a growing
 parks system, a dynamic workforce, and an award-winning school
 district; it is home to the East Williamson County Higher
 Education Center, an academic partnership between Temple College,
 Texas State Technical College, and Texas A&M University-Central
 Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Once driven by cotton, the area's economy has
 diversified to include thriving high-tech jobs, manufacturing
 and service positions, and expanding retail opportunities; more
 than ever before, Hutto is an exceptional place in which to live,
 work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby extend to the people of Hutto best wishes
 for a productive and memorable Hutto Day at the Capitol; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
