| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Family-owned businesses are the backbone of Texas |

| 3 | 3 | | communities, and for 60 years Gonzalez Place tavern has played a |

| 4 | 4 | | vital role in the life of Weslaco; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The tavern was established on Texas Boulevard in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Weslaco in 1957 by Fidencio Martinez Gonzalez, who had emigrated |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | from Mexico at the age of 14 during the Great Depression; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Conceived from the beginning as a warm, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | unpretentious gathering spot, Gonzalez Place soon became |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | inextricably woven into the social fabric of the community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the business has remained in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Gonzalez family; Relio and Sergio Gonzalez, brothers of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | tavern's founder, played their part in managing the business, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | it is currently run by the founder's son, Daniel Fidencio |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Gonzalez; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Place is known as the oldest |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | tavern in Weslaco; while it maintains its traditional ties to the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | community, it continues to be a welcoming place for new |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | generations of Weslaco residents to meet and enjoy; now, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Gonzalez Place tavern in Weslaco |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | on its 60th anniversary and extend to the tavern's owners and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | patrons sincere best wishes for continued good fellowship; and, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the tavern as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
