| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Cheryl Jones, who has been named the recipient of the |

| 4 | 4 | | 2017 June Bratcher Award by the Texas Medical Association |

| 5 | 5 | | Political Action Committee; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is presented biennially to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | honor individuals for outstanding volunteerism and significant |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | involvement in a federal or state political campaign during the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | last election cycle; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The award is modeled on the Belle Chenault Award |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | given by the American Medical Association Political Action |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Committee and is named in honor of the first recipient of that |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | award, June Bratcher, who served as president of the Bexar County |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Medical Alliance and excelled at organizing the medical |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | community for political action; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jones is truly a fitting recipient of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | June Bratcher Award; through her longstanding civic and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | political engagement, her support of public health initiatives, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and her farsighted and strong advocacy for doctors and patients, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | she has contributed greatly to the medical community; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, She is married to Dr. Russell Jones, who serves as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | an emergency room physician at Scott and White Medical Center in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Temple, and she has worked tirelessly to improve the provision of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | health care in this state; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jones has been an inspiration to others |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | through her leadership and her commitment to public service; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Cheryl Jones on her outstanding |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | efforts on behalf of the medical community and its patients and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | extend to her congratulations on receiving the June Bratcher |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Award in 2017 and best wishes for continued success in all her |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | endeavors; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
