                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Pearland Police Chief Joseph Christopher Doyle, who
 is retiring after 38 years of service with the Pearland Police
 Department; and
 WHEREAS, Chief Doyle joined the Pearland Police Department
 in January of 1979, and his impressive career has included
 experience in nearly every aspect of police work; in his time
 with the department, he has served as a detective, a patrol
 sergeant, and a commander for a multi-agency special weapons and
 tactics team; and
 WHEREAS, This exemplary public servant has handled his
 far-reaching responsibilities with exceptional skill and
 dedication and has acted with courage and tenacity in protecting
 the community he loves; he is noted for playing an instrumental
 role in acquiring and implementing the state-of-the-art radio
 and laptop systems currently in use by the department; and
 WHEREAS, Chief Doyle was promoted to assistant chief of
 police in 1994, and he has led the department since his
 appointment to chief of police in 1999; he is the longest-serving
 chief in the department's 57-year history; and
 WHEREAS, A respected and admired member of his community,
 Chief Doyle has received numerous letters of commendation for
 exceeding the call of duty in his job performance and for
 fostering cooperation with law enforcement partners outside of
 the Pearland department when handling cross-jurisdictional
 investigations; he has displayed superior judgment in dealing
 with the unique challenges of law enforcement duty, and his
 presence at the Pearland Police Department will be greatly missed;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Pearland Police Chief Joseph
 Christopher Doyle for his many contributions to his community and
 extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
