5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Renato E. |
---|
7 | 7 | | Cardenas, who died April 21, 2017, at the age of 86; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Renato Cardenas was born on December 8, 1930, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he moved to Brownsville at the age |
---|
10 | 10 | | of 11 to live with his aunt, and he attended Brownsville public |
---|
11 | 11 | | schools; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Renato joined the United States Air Force as a |
---|
13 | 13 | | young man; he served with distinction during the Korean conflict, |
---|
14 | 14 | | and he completed his military service having earned the rank of |
---|
15 | 15 | | staff sergeant; he graduated from Texas Southmost College and |
---|
16 | 16 | | also attended Pan American University in Edinburg; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cardenas had a rewarding career as an |
---|
18 | 18 | | entrepreneur and found notable success in both real estate |
---|
19 | 19 | | development and automotive sales; he began developing |
---|
20 | 20 | | subdivisions in Brownsville in 1969 and later established |
---|
21 | 21 | | Cardenas Development Company, Incorporated; he opened an |
---|
22 | 22 | | automotive dealership in 1971, and today, the Cardenas Group of |
---|
23 | 23 | | automotive dealerships includes locations in Harlingen and |
---|
24 | 24 | | Raymondville; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Renato Cardenas was a generous man who worked |
---|
26 | 26 | | tirelessly on behalf of his community; he served as a Brownsville |
---|
27 | 27 | | city commissioner for a number of years, and he was a cofounder of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Valley Community Hospital, the Brownsville Foundation for Health |
---|
29 | 29 | | and Education, and Sunrise Bank; he served on the boards of |
---|
30 | 30 | | numerous professional and civic organizations, and he was a |
---|
31 | 31 | | member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church for 50 years; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Cardenas shared 61 years |
---|
33 | 33 | | of marriage with Mary Rose Cardenas, and they were blessed with |
---|
34 | 34 | | five children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; |
---|
35 | 35 | | he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will |
---|
36 | 36 | | long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; |
---|
37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
40 | 40 | | family of Renato E. Cardenas; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
42 | 42 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
44 | 44 | | memory of Renato Cardenas. |
