| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Leroy Dreyer, who was inducted into the American |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on January 6, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Leroy Dreyer served as a coach and athletic |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | director at Blinn College for more than 30 years; under his |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | exemplary leadership, the college's athletic program became one |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of the most respected and successful in the nation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete in his own right, he was a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | junior college all-American football player at Blinn College |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | before becoming the school's athletic director, football coach, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and baseball coach at the age of 28; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure as baseball coach, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he won 72 percent of his games and five of his teams advanced to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 23 of his Blinn College baseball players were named |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | all-Americans, and 52 received professional contracts, including |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | such accomplished major leaguers as Ron Davis and Gary Weiss; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Coach Dreyer received numerous honors over the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | course of his career, including the Hap Morse Award and Topps |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Coach of the Year, and the baseball field and the most valuable |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | baseball player award at Blinn College have been named in his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | honor; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Leroy Dreyer has had a profound influence on his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | profession and on the many generations of athletes he has led, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and it is truly fitting that he receive special recognition for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Leroy Dreyer on his exceptional |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions to college athletics and extend congratulations |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | to him on his induction into the American Baseball Coaches |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Association Hall of Fame; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
