| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas Water Development Board on the occasion of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the 60th anniversary of its creation; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In response to the state's devastating drought of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the 1950s, the Texas Water Development Board was created by a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | legislative act and a constitutional amendment approved by Texas |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | voters in 1957; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This landmark legislation provided for the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | issuance and sale of bonds to provide financial assistance for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the conservation and development of the state's water resources |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and created an agency to administer the fund; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Water Development Board provides |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | water planning, data collection and dissemination, financial |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | assistance, and technical assistance services to the citizens of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas; these services help maintain the viability of the state's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | natural resources, health, and economic development; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, By providing approximately $23 billion in financial |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | assistance to Texas communities and overseeing the development of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | nine state water plans over the course of its history, the Texas |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Water Development Board has facilitated the orderly and responsible |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | development, management, and conservation of the state's water |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | resources, and the board is truly deserving of special recognition |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for this exceptional work; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Texas Water Development |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Board on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and extend to its |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | board members, management, and staff best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | success with their important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the board as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
