4	4	Norman Lee Robinson
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
6	6	of North Texas in mourning the loss of the Reverend Norman Lee
7	7	Robinson, who died April 28, 2017, at the age of 96; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Norman Robinson was born on February 23, 1921, in
9	9	Sanger, Texas; a man of spiritual depth and uncommon wisdom and
10	10	compassion, he was a revered Christian leader and was widely
11	11	admired for living a life of charitable service; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Pastor Robinson served his country with distinction
13	13	in the United States Army during World War II; he began working for
14	14	the Dallas Housing Authority in 1946, and he retired from his
15	15	position with the city after a 30-year career; and
16	16	WHEREAS, In 1962, Pastor Robinson graduated from the
17	17	Southern Bible Institute of Dallas, and that same year, he began
18	18	a life of ministry at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in
19	19	Grand Prairie; he answered the call to minister at Mount Olive
20	20	Baptist Church in Arlington in 1966, when the church had a
21	21	membership of only 17 congregants; since then, the congregation
22	22	has grown to more than 12,000, and the church has flourished;
23	23	today, the church has the support of 35 ministers and more than
24	24	100 deacons; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Under Pastor Robinson's exemplary leadership,
26	26	Mount Olive Baptist Church launched dozens of ministries and
27	27	became a cornerstone of the Arlington community; this esteemed
28	28	church leader was honored with the keys to the Cities of
29	29	Arlington and Grand Prairie, and he was presented with letters of
30	30	commendation by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton; in
31	31	1992, the City of Arlington renamed a street in his honor; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Pastor Robinson shared a life of spiritual
33	33	service with his devoted wife, the late Pearl Marie Taylor
34	34	Robinson, and their three children and numerous grandchildren,
35	35	great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were a
36	36	source of immense pride and joy; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Known for his vibrant personality and his direct,
38	38	uncompromising approach to sharing the Gospel, Pastor Norman
39	39	Robinson touched the lives of countless citizens; he was beloved
40	40	by many, and his proud spiritual legacy will continue to be a
41	41	source of strength and inspiration to all who were privileged to
42	42	know him; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
44	44	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
45	45	family of the Reverend Norman Lee Robinson; and, be it further
46	46	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
47	47	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
48	48	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
49	49	memory of Norman Robinson.
