55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
66 of North Texas in mourning the loss of the Reverend Norman Lee
77 Robinson, who died April 28, 2017, at the age of 96; and
88 WHEREAS, Norman Robinson was born on February 23, 1921, in
99 Sanger, Texas; a man of spiritual depth and uncommon wisdom and
1010 compassion, he was a revered Christian leader and was widely
1111 admired for living a life of charitable service; and
1212 WHEREAS, Pastor Robinson served his country with distinction
1313 in the United States Army during World War II; he began working for
1414 the Dallas Housing Authority in 1946, and he retired from his
1515 position with the city after a 30-year career; and
1616 WHEREAS, In 1962, Pastor Robinson graduated from the
1717 Southern Bible Institute of Dallas, and that same year, he began
1818 a life of ministry at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in
1919 Grand Prairie; he answered the call to minister at Mount Olive
2020 Baptist Church in Arlington in 1966, when the church had a
2121 membership of only 17 congregants; since then, the congregation
2222 has grown to more than 12,000, and the church has flourished;
2323 today, the church has the support of 35 ministers and more than
2424 100 deacons; and
2525 WHEREAS, Under Pastor Robinson's exemplary leadership,
2626 Mount Olive Baptist Church launched dozens of ministries and
2727 became a cornerstone of the Arlington community; this esteemed
2828 church leader was honored with the keys to the Cities of
2929 Arlington and Grand Prairie, and he was presented with letters of
3030 commendation by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton; in
3131 1992, the City of Arlington renamed a street in his honor; and
3232 WHEREAS, Pastor Robinson shared a life of spiritual
3333 service with his devoted wife, the late Pearl Marie Taylor
3434 Robinson, and their three children and numerous grandchildren,
3535 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were a
3636 source of immense pride and joy; and
3737 WHEREAS, Known for his vibrant personality and his direct,
3838 uncompromising approach to sharing the Gospel, Pastor Norman
3939 Robinson touched the lives of countless citizens; he was beloved
4040 by many, and his proud spiritual legacy will continue to be a
4141 source of strength and inspiration to all who were privileged to
4242 know him; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
4444 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4545 family of the Reverend Norman Lee Robinson; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4848 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4949 memory of Norman Robinson.
