| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Edie Carter, who is the recipient of the 2017 Faculty |

| 4 | 4 | | Innovation Award from the American Association of Community |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Colleges; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This award program of the American Association of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Community Colleges recognizes teachers at member colleges who |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | have demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of college programs that have a positive impact on the learning |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | experiences of students; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Edie Carter is a teacher who leads the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | developmental mathematics team at Amarillo College, where she |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | has guided the efforts to redesign the curriculum to effectively |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | prepare students for more advanced college-level mathematics |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | courses; her mathematics instruction team has prevailed in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | producing positive outcomes for students in an environment where |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | funding is tight and expectations are high; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Under Edie Carter's leadership, the completion rates |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in developmental mathematics courses at Amarillo College have |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | risen, and the dropout rates have declined; during the 2015-2016 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | academic year, more than 75 percent of students in developmental |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | mathematics courses completed their course work; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Edie Carter is an exceptionally skilled higher |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | education instructor who is respected and admired by her students, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | her colleagues, and the Amarillo College community; she is indeed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | deserving of recognition for her outstanding accomplishments; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Edie Carter on her exemplary career |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | at Amarillo College and congratulate her on receiving the 2017 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Faculty Innovation Award from the American Association of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Community Colleges; and, be it further |
