| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Cynthia Cooksey, who has been named the 2017 Librarian |

| 4 | 4 | | of the Year by the Texas Library Association; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Library Association honors a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | librarian who has provided extraordinary leadership and service |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | within the library community during the preceding year; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia Cooksey is the librarian at Dr. Pablo |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Perez Elementary School in the McAllen Independent School |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | District; she has been an active leader in the library community |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | since becoming a librarian 14 years ago; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia is admired by her colleagues for her |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | willingness to share ideas and to help others; she is noted for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | organizing summer gatherings that enable district librarians to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | select children's books and create corresponding lessons and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | activities for the upcoming year; she and her peers also work |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | together to develop library and technology lessons for upper-level |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | students; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia has given numerous presentations at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Region One Education Service Center events, and she most recently |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | participated on a panel of technology experts at the Code the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Valley Symposium, during which she emphasized the importance of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | coding; because of her efforts to showcase computer programming |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and technology, many campuses in the region are using robotics in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | their schools; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia Cooksey represents the highest ideals of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her profession, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Cynthia Cooksey on her exceptional |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributions to her community and extend to her congratulations |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | on being named the 2017 Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Association; and, be it further |
