                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 756
 WHEREAS, James Greer retired from the Harrison County
 Commissioner's Court on December 31, 2016, concluding an
 exemplary tenure in office that spanned 17 years; and
 WHEREAS, First elected in 2000, Mr. Greer served his
 constituents with skill and dedication, demonstrating a strong
 commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and professionalism;
 he worked tirelessly in behalf of numerous important initiatives,
 including the restoration of the historic courthouse and the
 construction of a 200-bed jail; the commissioners amassed a
 sizable general fund balance to cover county operations during
 lean times, and they oversaw improvements to the Road and Bridge
 Department and to the sheriff's fleet of vehicles; and
 WHEREAS, For 30 years, Mr. Greer was an educator with
 Hallsville public schools, where he taught Texas history, served
 as head coach for all sports, and eventually rose to become a
 principal; a graduate of Hallsville High School, he attended
 Baylor University and Stephen F. Austin State University, and
 after being named an All-American football player in both high
 school and college, he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns; and
 WHEREAS, James Greer's significant contributions have
 helped make Harrison County an even better place in which to live
 and work, and he may take justifiable pride in his outstanding
 record of achievement; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby honor James Greer for his service as a
 Harrison County commissioner and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Mr. Greer as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
