| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Gaspar Garcia for his outstanding work as director of |

| 4 | 4 | | bands at Oliveira Middle School in Brownsville; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia joined the faculty at Oliveira Middle |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | School in 2013 after having served as assistant band director at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Hanna Early College High School; he began his teaching career in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Fort Worth, where he played an important role in the award-winning |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Southwest High School concert bands; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, All concert bands under Mr. Garcia's leadership |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | have consistently won sweepstakes awards at University |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Interscholastic League competitions and invitational festivals; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band recently placed fifth |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | overall in class CCC at the Texas Music Educators Association's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | State Honor Band Contest, and it was selected a national winner |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | at the National Wind Band Honors Contest through the Foundation |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for Music Education; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, An outstanding performer in his own right, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mr. Garcia has performed with many noted ensembles, including the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Lone Star Wind Orchestra and the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Texas Band Masters Association, and the International Clarinet |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, Gaspar Garcia is having a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | positive impact on the lives of his students, and it is truly |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fitting that he receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Gaspar Garcia on his exceptional |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | leadership as director of bands at Oliveira Middle School and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
