| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Edith Royal and welcome her to the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Edith Royal is a much beloved and respected Texan |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | whose many contributions to the Texas Longhorn football program |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and countless philanthropic efforts have made her a legendary |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | figure in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Royal played a vital role in the success of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | her husband, the late Darrell Royal; she provided him steadfast |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and loyal support as he built the Longhorns into one of the most |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | successful programs in the history of college football; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Despite the many demands placed on her as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | coach's wife, she made the time to participate in a wide variety |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of philanthropic activities, notably in support of education on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | drug and alcohol abuse and recovery; she was a founder of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Children's Advocacy Center and a founding board member of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Austin chapter of the Palmer Drug Abuse Program; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Following the death of her husband from |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Alzheimer's disease, she devoted her charitable efforts to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fighting the illness; she established the Darrell K Royal |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease, which has raised well in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | excess of $1 million to fund research toward finding a cure; it is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | truly fitting that she receive special recognition for her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | outstanding philanthropic efforts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Edith Royal on her many |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | contributions to our state and extend to her best wishes for the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | continued success of the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Alzheimer's Disease; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
