1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 771
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Lee F. Jackson, who is retiring after 15 years of
4	4	exceptional service as chancellor of the University of North
5	5	Texas System; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson joined the University of North Texas
7	7	System as chancellor in 2002 after a long and distinguished
8	8	career in public service that saw him serve five terms in the
9	9	Texas House of Representatives and four terms as Dallas County
10	10	judge; he was named to Texas Monthly's "Ten Best Legislators"
11	11	list in 1983 and was instrumental in the passage of numerous
12	12	infrastructure development bonds and the advancement of other
13	13	improvements and programs throughout Dallas County; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the University
15	15	of North Texas System has undergone unprecedented growth;
16	16	four-year and five-year graduation rates have increased
17	17	dramatically and the number of degrees awarded each year has
18	18	nearly doubled; the University of North Texas was named a Tier
19	19	One research university by the Carnegie Endowment, and the
20	20	system's annual research investment has gone from $28 million to
21	21	$68 million; and
22	22	WHEREAS, During Mr. Jackson's tenure, the University of
23	23	North Texas at Dallas opened as the first public university
24	24	within the city, and he has been an ardent supporter of its new
25	25	law school; he also oversaw the creation of new professional
26	26	programs in engineering, pharmacy, and medicine, as well as the
27	27	expansion of the University of North Texas Health Science Center
28	28	in Fort Worth; and
29	29	WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, he is
30	30	respected and admired by faculty and students alike, and his
31	31	presence as chancellor of the University of North Texas System
32	32	will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
34	34	Legislature, hereby commend Chancellor Lee F. Jackson on his
35	35	exceptional career as chancellor of the University of North Texas
36	36	System and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all
37	37	his future endeavors; and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
39	39	him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
