| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Pastor Joe Fred Russell on the occasion of his 20th |

| 4 | 4 | | anniversary as pastor of Greater Jerusalem Missionary Baptist |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Church, which is being celebrated May 28, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, After having served as pastor of Mount Olive |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Baptist Church in Corrigan, Pastor Russell became a pastor at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Greater Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church on May 7, 1997; under |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | his outstanding leadership, the church has continued to grow and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to play a vital role in the life of the community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Russell has been instrumental in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | creation of numerous new ministries, projects, and programs, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | including a renovation of the church and the creation of a bus |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | ministry, a counseling center, and a community recreation center; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | he led the way as members overcame the hardships imposed by the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | severe damage to the church from Hurricane Ike; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, he has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | performed countless ceremonies and rites; he has prayed with and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | counseled church members in times of hardship and bereavement and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | rejoiced with them in times of prosperity and celebration; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, Pastor |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Russell has had a profound impact on the lives of countless |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | people; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Pastor Joe Fred Russell on 20 years |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of exceptional service to the congregation of Greater Jerusalem |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Missionary Baptist Church; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
