| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Barbara and Jess |

| 3 | 3 | | Barrier placed great faith and trust in one another, and they |

| 4 | 4 | | have been amply rewarded, as they recently celebrated their 60th |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | wedding anniversary; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Barbara and Jess Barrier married on April 20, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1957, at Houston South Main Baptist Church; the world has changed |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | considerably during the years of their marriage, yet Mr. and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mrs. Barrier have continued to cherish traditional family |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | values; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Barrier served the nation with distinction |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for 16 years as a member of the United States Marine Corps; his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | service included duty in the Korean War, during which he saw |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | combat action in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | he graduated from Texas A&M University and built a career that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | included positions with a number of organizations, such as Houston |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Lighting and Power and the Texas Association of Hospitals; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrier graduated from Baylor University |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | with a degree in journalism; she enjoyed a fulfilling 35-year |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | career as a reporter and proofreader for the Williamson County |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sun; as a reporter, she covered a wide range of subjects and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | earned the respect and trust of readers and sources alike; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Barrier have been blessed with a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | wonderful family; their children and grandchildren have been a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | source of much pride and joy for them; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | love and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sorrows of everyday living; the long and happy union of Mr. and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Mrs. Barrier is truly an inspiration to all; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to Barbara and Jess |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Barrier on their 60th wedding anniversary; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 34 | 34 | | this distinguished couple as an expression of esteem from the |
