11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 778
22 WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Barbara and Jess
33 Barrier placed great faith and trust in one another, and they
44 have been amply rewarded, as they recently celebrated their 60th
55 wedding anniversary; and
66 WHEREAS, Barbara and Jess Barrier married on April 20,
77 1957, at Houston South Main Baptist Church; the world has changed
88 considerably during the years of their marriage, yet Mr. and
99 Mrs. Barrier have continued to cherish traditional family
1010 values; and
1111 WHEREAS, Mr. Barrier served the nation with distinction
1212 for 16 years as a member of the United States Marine Corps; his
1313 service included duty in the Korean War, during which he saw
1414 combat action in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir;
1515 he graduated from Texas A&M University and built a career that
1616 included positions with a number of organizations, such as Houston
1717 Lighting and Power and the Texas Association of Hospitals; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrier graduated from Baylor University
1919 with a degree in journalism; she enjoyed a fulfilling 35-year
2020 career as a reporter and proofreader for the Williamson County
2121 Sun; as a reporter, she covered a wide range of subjects and
2222 earned the respect and trust of readers and sources alike; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Barrier have been blessed with a
2424 wonderful family; their children and grandchildren have been a
2525 source of much pride and joy for them; and
2626 WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their
2727 love and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and
2828 sorrows of everyday living; the long and happy union of Mr. and
2929 Mrs. Barrier is truly an inspiration to all; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3131 Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to Barbara and Jess
3232 Barrier on their 60th wedding anniversary; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3434 this distinguished couple as an expression of esteem from the
3535 Texas Senate.
