| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Samuel P. Perry, an assistant professor for the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, who has recently been awarded |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | tenure; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Perry graduated from Baylor University |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | with a degree in communication and history, and he earned his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | master's degree from the university in communication; he later |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | continued his studies at Georgia State University, where he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | earned his doctoral degree in public communication, with a focus |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | on public address and visual rhetoric; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, Dr. Perry returned to Texas to join the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Baylor University faculty; he is the instructor of record for six |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | courses, and he leads a team of faculty members as the coordinator |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the World of Rhetoric I and II courses; he also serves as the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | coordinator for a graduate fellowship between the Baylor |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Interdisciplinary Core and the Communication department; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Perry's ongoing research focuses on the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | intersection of text and image, specifically as that intersection |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | relates to issues of race and African American identity; his work |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has been published in peer-reviewed articles, selected papers, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and textbooks, and he has spoken at numerous conferences and for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | professional associations on current events as they relate to his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | research; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Perry is a distinguished scholar who contributes |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his academic expertise in communication and rhetoric to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | textbooks and a number of academic journals; he sheds light on |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | important issues that affect citizens and communities today and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | on the ways in which citizenship has been defined throughout |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | American history; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | exceptional research and his many accomplishments; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Samuel P. Perry for his significant |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | contributions to academia and extend to him congratulations on |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | earning tenure at Baylor University; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
