| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the inaugural class of the Rio Grande Valley |

| 4 | 4 | | Legislative Internship Program; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This program is an academic initiative of The |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with funding from the UTRGV |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Foundation; it is administered by the university's Office of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Governmental Relations and Department of Political Science and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is under the direction of Dr. Ruth Ann Ragland; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The program provides opportunities for students |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to serve in the office of a representative or senator from the Rio |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Grande Valley during a regular session of the Texas Legislature; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | interns earn academic credit, and their duties include drafting |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | documents, analyzing proposals, performing research, and meeting |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with stakeholders; among the qualities critical to success in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | program are integrity, good judgment, independent thinking, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ingenuity, resourcefulness, and professionalism; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The interns and the legislators in whose offices |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | they served are: Ann Jacobo, Representative Eddie Lucio III; |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Rio Grande Valley Legislative |

| 34 | 34 | | Internship Program Class of 2017 and extend to its members best |

| 35 | 35 | | wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further |
