| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Carlos J. Cardenas of Edinburg, who has been |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | installed as president of the Texas Medical Association; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cardenas is cofounder, chief administrative |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | officer, and chairman of the board of Doctors Hospital at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Renaissance; a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | at Galveston, he has practiced gastroenterology for nearly three |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, He has previously held a number of leadership |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | positions with the Texas Medical Association; he served as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | member of its Council on Legislation and was legislative chair of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Border Health Caucus; he is a member of the TMA Foundation, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the association's philanthropic arm, and he is a founding and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Patron Club member of TEXPAC, its political action committee; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He has been a staunch advocate on behalf of medical |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | practitioners and patient care, and he regularly attends the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | association's legislative lobby days each legislative session; he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | has advised numerous elected officials and policymakers at the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | state and federal levels on health matters; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Carlos Cardenas is a highly respected leader |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in the medical community, and it is truly fitting that his peers |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | have selected him to be president of the Texas Medical |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Association; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Carlos J. Cardenas on his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commitment to excellence in the field of medicine and his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | advocacy on behalf of the medical profession and extend to him |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | congratulations on his election as president of the Texas Medical |
|---|
