| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Louis A. Bedford IV for his outstanding work as a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | legislative intern in the office of Senator Royce West; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Louis Bedford is a second-year law student at The |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | University of Texas School of Law, where he serves as the public |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | relations chair of the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society; he |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | expects to earn his law degree in May of 2018; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, As an intern in the senator's office, Louis played |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | an integral role in the success of "Team West"; his many |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | responsibilities included attending hearings and summarizing the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | proceedings, primarily those of the Committee on Higher Education |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; he also researched, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | analyzed, and provided feedback on bills, drafted questions for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | floor debate, and spent time with constituents; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, During his internship, Louis gained firsthand |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | knowledge of the governmental process and insight into the issues |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | facing our communities and our state, and he was an invaluable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | asset to the staff in the office of Senator West; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, It is the senator's hope that Louis's exposure to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the legislative process, the creation and interpretation of law, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and the mission of service to others will foster in him an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | activism and spirit that will inspire him to carry on the legacy |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of his grandfather, Judge Louis A. Bedford Jr., who was the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | senator's highly respected mentor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Louis A. Bedford IV on his exemplary |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | work as a legislative intern for Senator Royce West and extend to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | him best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
