SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 840 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Daniel Vaughn on the occasion of his graduation from the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and WHEREAS, Daniel Vaughn accomplished this signal achievement in the face of hardship and adversity; during his undergraduate years, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and the tumor and the subsequent operations to remove it cost him his eyesight; and WHEREAS, Despite facing rejection from numerous law schools that declined to take a chance on him, Mr. Vaughn persevered, and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law opened its doors to him; he excelled in his courses, yet the tumor recurred when he was just 14 credit hours short of completing his degree; after a leave of absence and after brain surgery in the fall of 2016, he returned to law school to complete his studies; and WHEREAS, Throughout his time in law school, he received the support and assistance of his girlfriend, Jenny Moss, and of his mother, Terry Vaughn, who attended every class alongside him; Daniel succeeded in graduating in the top 10 percent of his class, and after he passes the bar, he intends to become a probate lawyer; and WHEREAS, A high achiever, Daniel Vaughn establishes and pursues his goals with courage, strength, and a profound commitment to overcome adversity; his notable accomplishments in law school bear witness to his dedication and outstanding abilities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Daniel Vaughn on his hard work and tenacity in the face of hardship and extend congratulations to him on his graduation from the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
