| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Daniel Vaughn on the occasion of his graduation from |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law; |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Vaughn accomplished this signal achievement |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in the face of hardship and adversity; during his undergraduate |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | years, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and the tumor and the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | subsequent operations to remove it cost him his eyesight; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Despite facing rejection from numerous law |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | schools that declined to take a chance on him, Mr. Vaughn |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | persevered, and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law opened its |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | doors to him; he excelled in his courses, yet the tumor recurred |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | when he was just 14 credit hours short of completing his degree; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | after a leave of absence and after brain surgery in the fall of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 2016, he returned to law school to complete his studies; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his time in law school, he received the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | support and assistance of his girlfriend, Jenny Moss, and of his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | mother, Terry Vaughn, who attended every class alongside him; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Daniel succeeded in graduating in the top 10 percent of his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | class, and after he passes the bar, he intends to become a probate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | lawyer; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A high achiever, Daniel Vaughn establishes and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pursues his goals with courage, strength, and a profound |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | commitment to overcome adversity; his notable accomplishments in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | law school bear witness to his dedication and outstanding |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | abilities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Daniel Vaughn on his hard work and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | tenacity in the face of hardship and extend congratulations to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | him on his graduation from the Texas Southern University Thurgood |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Marshall School of Law; and, be it further |
