| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Rhonda Peña, who has been selected to receive the |

| 4 | 4 | | Lifetime Achievement Award for elementary school teachers as part |

| 5 | 5 | | of the 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Created in 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Education Awards were established to honor outstanding public |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | commitment to the schoolchildren of this state; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to educators and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | administrators who go the extra mile every day to serve their |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students and their communities and who inspire others to do the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | same; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Excellence in Education Awards are designed |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to recognize educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | student achievement by developing innovative programs, by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | bringing about increased parental and community involvement, or |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by creating professional development opportunities; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Lifetime Achievement Award honors teachers |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | who have more than 20 years of experience in the classroom; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Rhonda Peña is an instructor at Bryan Elementary School in the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Mission Consolidated Independent School District; her selection |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | for this award is a testament to her commitment to the children of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the Lone Star State and her proven ability to motivate her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | students to learn; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Excellence in Education Awards recognize the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | outstanding efforts of Texas educators such as Rhonda Peña, who |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | are building the future of Texas by educating our next generation |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of leaders; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Rhonda Peña on being selected |

| 32 | 32 | | to receive the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education |

| 33 | 33 | | Lifetime Achievement Award for elementary school teachers and |
