                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 848
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dale Bottoms, who was the recipient of a French Legion
 of Honour Award on April 6, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, The French Legion of Honour Award is France's
 highest decoration; established to recognize eminent merits in
 the service of France, the medal may be awarded to French
 citizens or foreign nationals, whether military or civilian;
 Mr. Bottoms, of Jewett, Texas, was one of seven to be honored
 with the medal at the ceremony this April in Houston; the medal
 was presented by Sujiro Seam, the Consul General of France; and
 WHEREAS, Dale Bottoms was a member of that great generation
 of young men who answered the call to serve their country during
 World War II; he fought courageously on behalf of freedom for
 France and all of Europe; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Bottoms served on 30 missions as a B-24 flight
 engineer waist gunner over France and Germany during the war, and
 he was among those brave patriots who took part in the Normandy
 Invasion on D-Day; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Bottoms is a highly decorated veteran who
 demonstrated spirit and selfless service on behalf of this nation
 and its allies, and he set a lasting standard for courage and
 patriotism; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Dale Bottoms for his distinguished
 military service during World War II and congratulate him on
 receiving a French Legion of Honour Award; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
