| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dale Bottoms, who was the recipient of a French Legion |

| 4 | 4 | | of Honour Award on April 6, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The French Legion of Honour Award is France's |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | highest decoration; established to recognize eminent merits in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the service of France, the medal may be awarded to French |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | citizens or foreign nationals, whether military or civilian; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mr. Bottoms, of Jewett, Texas, was one of seven to be honored |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with the medal at the ceremony this April in Houston; the medal |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | was presented by Sujiro Seam, the Consul General of France; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dale Bottoms was a member of that great generation |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of young men who answered the call to serve their country during |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | World War II; he fought courageously on behalf of freedom for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | France and all of Europe; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bottoms served on 30 missions as a B-24 flight |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | engineer waist gunner over France and Germany during the war, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he was among those brave patriots who took part in the Normandy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Invasion on D-Day; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bottoms is a highly decorated veteran who |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | demonstrated spirit and selfless service on behalf of this nation |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and its allies, and he set a lasting standard for courage and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | patriotism; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dale Bottoms for his distinguished |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | military service during World War II and congratulate him on |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | receiving a French Legion of Honour Award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
